September: Attendance Awareness Month

Attendance Awareness Month Logo

September is designated as Attendance Awareness Month in hopes to educate parents and students about the importance of school attendance. It is vital for students to attend school every day in order to achieve academic success. With the implementation of House Bill 410, students are held accountable for their school attendance in regards to hours missed instead of days missed. Students who are habitually truant risk losing academic credit and falling far behind. According to Attendanceworks.org, students who miss 10% of the school year can translate into third graders unable to master reading, sixth graders failing classes, or a ninth grader dropping out of school. Windham Schools does not want to see anyone fall behind! We are here to help students break down barriers which stop them from attending school. We have Attendance Intervention Teams in place and school counselors and community resources available to help students and families overcome attendance issues. We hope to continue to our promising work with the families of Windham, and thank you for sending your children to school each day.
