Dear Students and Family Members:
It is amazing how fast the first semester has flown by. I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation in making the first semester a successful and enjoyable time. Hopefully our students keep up the hard work during the second semester and before we know it Spring will be here.
As we move into the 2nd half of the school year, our focus switches to testing. When our testing windows open, parents are reminded of the importance of ensuring that their child gets plenty of sleep the night before a test, eats breakfast on the morning of the test, and attends school on the day of the test. We have made great strides in improving our test scores in the recent years, and look to continue this trend this school year.
One of our focuses from the 1st semester was attendence. We have made some gains in this area, but there continues to be room for improvement for many of our students. It is imperative that we find ways to make sure that our students are coming to school everyday and on time. Research has shown that nothing is more important to a student’s success than their attendance.
There are a few things coming up in Feburary and March. First of all, there will be no school February 15 and 18 and early release days will be on February 28 and Mrach 28. These days are vitally important as our teachers receive valuable training during this time so I appreciate your cooperation with this. Additionally, parent-teacher conferences will be held February 14 from 3:00-9:00. Please call the office to schedule appointments to meet with your son or daughters teachers, as parent-teacher communication is extremely important to the success of our students. Our school will host History day on February 26 in the Jr. High gym. This is a great opportunity for the public to come into the school and get a glimpse of the great work that our students do on a daily basis. Our High School National Honor Society ceremony will be held on March 8 with our Junior High ceremony being the following week on March 15. Parents of students involved with this will receive information prior to these dates. Lastly, all sophomores will recieve CPR on March 29.
Our food pantry has been a huge success. Each friday over 75 students visit the pantry and receive food for the families over the weekend. We will continue to partner with the Windham Bible Church and have plans for growing this and helping even more of our students and community members. We have also started a volunteer program that allows members of the community to come in and help with passing out food on Fridays. If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer, please contact the board office for details.
Best of Luck,
Mr. Marinucci-Principal, Windham Jr./Sr. High School.
