Dear Students and Family Members:
It is amazing how fast the first nine weeks flew by. I would like to thank everyone for their cooperation in making the first nine weeks a successful and enjoyable time. Hopefully our students keep up the hard work during the second nine weeks and before we know it Christmas will be here.
One of our focuses for this school year has been Positive Behavior Support System known as PBIS. Teachers are watching for students that are displaying positive behaviors. When students are caught behaving positively, their names are written on a slip and added to our PBIS wall in the Hangar. At the end of each month students are selected to be recognized at the board meeting. During the first nine weeks, teachers turned in 187 PBIS slips. I hope that this display of positive behavior continues throughout the rest of the year.
Another one of our focuses this school year is attendance. It is imperative that we find ways to make sure that our students are coming to school everyday and on time. Research has shown that nothing is more important to a student’s success than their attendance. During the first nine weeks 95 students in the Junior High and 65 students in the high school that missed two or less days. It is our goal for these numbers to keep steadily improving and that our attendance overall continues to get better.
There are a few things coming up in November. First of all, there will be no school on November 6th. Teachers will receive training during that day and the school will be open to the public for voting. Additionally, our Student Council will host a canned food drive from November 12-November 19. Students will be asked to bring in non-perishable items and classes will compete to see who can bring in the most food. All donations will go to the Windham Church of Christ to help out with their annual food give away. Last year we were able to help out around 100 families. Our goal is to help even more this year. Our Thanksgiving break this year will be November 21-November 26. Hopefully everyone has time to caught up with family members and can be together for the holidays, and then come back rejuvenated and ready to learn on November 27.
We will also be partnering with the Windham Bible Church and opening a Food pantry in our building in the very near future. The pantry will be for students only and they will have the opportunity to shop every Friday to get food that their family needs for the following week.
A big congratulations goes out to our football team for their run in the playoffs. This year marked the fourth time in school history that we have hosted a playoff game and the second time in two years. Additionally, they won the schools first league title in 32 years. We are excited to watch our basketball teams carry this momentum into basketball season and hopefully they can bring home some titles as well.
Best of Luck,
Mr. Marinucci-Principal, Windham Jr./Sr. High School.
